Booking FAQs
Do I need a referral / What referral do you take? You do not need a referral to see a dietitian. We accept Medicare, private, DVA and NDIS clients. Medicare: GP Chronic Disease Management Plan, Eating Disorder Plan. Private: No referral needed. NDIS: If you or your client wish to use NDIS funding to access dietitian appointments, please call us at 07 3067 7280 to access eligibility. DVA: A D904 referral from your GP is required to access DVA-funded services. All DVA services are fully bulk-billed.
Why do you charge a fee? The consultation fee ensures we can give every patient or client the attention and care they deserve. This includes your appointment plus preparation and follow-up, as well as reviewing your notes and preparing reports to your GP. We understand the cost of living is rising. If you’re experiencing financial difficulties and need a reduced-fee or bulk-billed appointment, we’re happy to discuss options. Please call us at 07 3067 7280.
Cancellations & Reschedules To reschedule your appointment, please call 07 3067 7280 or email admin@bbdiet.com.au as soon as possible. Our 48-hour cancellation policy: Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice, or missed without notice, will incur 100% of the appointment fee as a late-cancellation charge. We understand that life and health can be unpredictable. If your cancellation is due to a genuine emergency, we’re more than happy to waive the fee. However, we do reserve the right to charge a late cancellation, as short-notice cancellations can make it difficult to rebook and impact the viability of our practice. Late cancellations also affect our staff, who are compensated for their time.

How Medicare Care Plan / Rebates Work GP Chronic Care Plan (GPCCMP/EPC): Up to 5 allied health sessions per year (can be shared across providers, e.g., physiotherapy, podiatry). Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander patients: Up to 10 allied health sessions per year (can be shared across providers). Eating Disorder Plan: Up to 20 dietitian sessions per year. Medicare covers $61.80 per session, so your out-of-pocket cost is the full fee minus the rebate. If you’ve already used all your Medicare-covered sessions, the rebate may no longer apply.
How Payment Works We accept bank transfer (to be made at least 2 days before your appointment) or credit card (2% surcharge applies) payment at the end of the appointment. We securely capture your credit card details when you book and will only take payments with your consent at the end of your appointment. Full details on payment, terms, and conditions are provided in your patient intake form and in your online booking portal.
How to Receive Rebates Medicare: We can process your Medicare rebates on your behalf after each appointment. Rebates of $61.80 will be deposited to the bank account linked to your Medicare number (or another account you specify). Note: We are unable to process rebates for children under 16. In this case, we’ll provide a receipt so you can claim the rebate manually. Private Health Insurance: We will provide a receipt for you to submit to your health fund. To check coverage for dietitian appointments, look for Item 500 (initial) and Item 600 (review) with your private health.
