What to expect from your initial dietitian consultation?
At the initial consultation, there will be plenty of time taken to assess and understand your specific needs, medical history, family history, and any existing health conditions and prescribed medicines and supplements taken, goals and other circumstances. In addition to this, laboratory testing may be recommended if necessary.
Your nutrition plan will then be designed specifically for you and will fit in with your lifestyle, food preferences and cooking ability. In most cases, it's important to have some follow-up consultations to review your progress, provide on-going support and nutrition education and counselling accordingly to help achieve short-term and long-term health goals.
What do I need to do?
1. Complete Booking Form online.
2. At the time of your initial consultation, please bring:
any relevant medical information e.g. medical history summary;
recent blood test, or other results (if applicable);
doctor's referral letter e.g. Enhance Primary Care (EPC) Plan (if applicable)
food diary (if applicable).
1. Only cash or online bank transfer accepted. A receipt will be emailed to you for medicare or private health rebates.
For many of our clients, we arrange a follow-up session/s to review any health goals that you may have set and monitor your health and weight progress. We will also review the nutrition strategies discussed in the previous sessions as well as any barriers or challenges encountered so that we can further refine the strategies and meal plans and make it more personalised for you. We explore non-restrictive eating, non-calorie counting, mindful eating, and understand how foods affect your health and weight, and how you relate to your body, mind and appetite around food and eating.
We focus on making small, progressive steps towards long-term, sustainable lifestyle changes for optimal health.
The number of consultations required will depend on the personal needs and there is no minimum. Research shows that those who receive regular support from a qualified dietitian have greater success rates towards their health and weight goals, compared to those doing it alone.
These can be arranged at additional cost, depending on your location. Please contact us to inquire for your specific needs.
If you are a DVA (Department of Veterans Affairs) with a Gold Card, you will not have to pay for your visit to the dietitian, and home visits are available with no out of pocket expenses. Please kindly see your GP for a referral before visiting the dietitian.
A video or phone consultation can be arranged if preferred. Our overseas clients regularly use this option. We have offered Telehealth (video/phone) consultations to clients living overseas such as Singapore, Canada, US, China, Malaysia, Hong Kong and other countries.
Video/Phone consultations are also useful if you live locally but unable to travel or run out of time to get to your appointment.
Online/Video Consultations (Zoom, Skype, Whatsapp, WeChat, Signal, Facetime).
Online consultations can be arranged if preferred. Using this new internet technology, you will be able to receive the same professional advice from your dietitian just as you would if you were seeing the dietitian in person.
These are a great option if you have some general food and nutrition questions. Prepayment by credit card is required. Please contact the clinic with your question/s and we will advise you of the cost, based on the number of questions and the time it will take to provide you with a considered response.
